About Joshua Tree National Park: the back story

Joshua Tree National Park protects the meeting point of the Mojave and Colorado deserts, with its famous Joshua trees and giant granite boulders.

The landscape

Joshua trees, boulder piles and wide desert valleys make it a favourite for hiking and stargazing.

Visiting

The Oasis Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms is one of the main entry points; plan your route on nps.gov/jotr.

The park is open all day, every day; check nps.gov for visitor centre hours.

Heat and water

Summer heat is dangerous: carry plenty of water and avoid hiking at midday.

Our advice: combine Joshua Tree with a night in Palm Springs.
